How Competitive is Bioentrepreneurship?

The Competition

Applications are now open for the Master’s in Bioentrepreneurship and I’m sure many of you are putting the finishing touches to your applications. I don’t envy you! I was there last year, scrawling through information about my eligibility and trying to upload the correct documentation. Remember you can’t delete something once its uploaded. (Don’t forget people…. Double AND triple check!).

I also remember looking for any information going on who else was applying and what my chances would be 🙂 I suppose that’s a little bit of early doors competitiveness right there!

Although it’s impossible to know your chances right now, the information about how many students apply to KI is publicly available (Swedish only)

I’ve had many request for this post from my current classmates, who (like me) wished we could have known who we were up against at application stage!

Who applies?

There is no doubt competition is strong at Karolinska Institutet. I’ve heard a rumour that our only ‘true’ competition is John Hopkins and Harvard.  From reputation alone, we’re in some intimidating company.

For the 2016/17 Autumn Semester, there were 253 Bioentrepreneurship applications and they looked like this:

This information is specifically for the Bioentrepreneurship programme. You can also see more information on my lovely classmates who got accepted in this blog.  Hint: We have a plastic surgeon, a swimming instructor and a chef in our class.

Motivation Motivation Motivation

Competition is tough but that should never put you off applying.

The Master’s in Bioentrepreneurship is all about motivation. You need to show the admissions team why you should be one of the lucky ones to study here. The team tries to choose students that share the same vision of becoming an industry leader between science and business. They weight the information about your motivation very highly compared to other programmes.

Everyone has a different reason for applying to the programme. You can read mine here. Your statement of intent is a great way to tell admissions your story and why you will be the best person for the programme.

Applications close January 16th 2017.

If you have any questions about Bioentrepreneurship or the application process in general, feel free to get in touch.
