Hi my name is Rosa and I will be blogging about the Masters in Bioentrepreneurship. I’m really happy to be part of the digital ambassador team and look forward to meeting some of you in due course.
Who am I?
I am from Stockport, a small town just outside Manchester, UK (and before you ask I don’t support United OR City). I did my Bachelors in Biochemistry at Bristol University. After I graduated I didn’t know what I wanted to do, so I went travelling for a year. When I got back (to my parents’ despair) I still had no idea….
So I kind of fell into a job working on the commercialisation of a new product for the health and safety industry. This is where I got my first taste of business. We were a small team, so I was lucky enough to experience many different aspects; sales, marketing, regulatory and financial. I really enjoyed the creativity, problem solving and teamwork involved working in the commercial environment.
Why am I here?
However, whilst I really enjoyed the work, I felt restless. I missed learning about life, the universe and working on projects that would have a big social or global health impact. I decided I wanted to get a job where I could use my degree but I knew I didn’t want to work in the lab. I figured surely there must be other jobs in life science that didn’t require a lab coat and safety specs ……
I did lots of research into programmes that offer business training to students with a life science background. I found the Masters in Bioentrepreneurship at Karolinska and thought immediately this is where I want to be.
The MBE offers the most opportunities to explore the ways you can be part of the life science industry through the practical placements. This is perfect for anyone who isn’t sure where they want to end up as it gives you an opportunity to sample lots of different functions and types of company.
The fact that Karolinska Institute is one of the best universities in the world and is situated in beautiful Stockholm made the decision that much easier!
In this blog I am going to talk about all things Bioentrepreneur; what it is and what we actually do on this programme! I’ll try add some bits about life in Stockholm and any other quirks about being an international student in Sweden.
Get in Touch
Bioentrepreneurship is definitely a different way of learning for anyone from a life science background but it’s great for anyone considering a career outside the lab……
If anyone has any questions or comments on how I’m finding the programme, why I chose Karolinska or even returning to studying after working, feel free to get in touch.
