One of the best things about studying abroad is going back home. And Christmas time is a wonderful time to do so. Surprising your family and friends and spending a couple of weeks with them, charging batteries and eating as much as you can!
It’s funny to get back home and see that nothing has changed, your family is there waiting to hug you, your friends are there waiting to take you out to party, everyone’s life’s have kept on going and everything remains the same to your eyes, everything but you.
You find out that you have changed. That these four months that you have spent living on your own, meeting new people, new cultures, new languages, new places, they have changed you. You are now a more adventurous person, you feel like you won’t be able to go back to your hometown again, because you will want to keep on discovering. This is the magic of traveling! It shapes you, it makes you dig down into you and find what your aspirations are. And that feeling is just amazing!
Studying abroad is being one of the best experiences of my life. I miss my family of course (dad, I do miss you), but at the end of Christmas, I was happy to be back, because that meant that I would keep on growing and experiencing, and that I would meet again the little family I am creating here.
For those of you who doubt, who think that Stockholm may be too far from home and you are going to miss everything too much… don’t hesitate it, magic happens when you leave your comfort zone.
Remember that you can always come back (and bring some delicious food with you!)
