Dear prospective students,
I hope this post finds you well.
I am Spyros and I am a previous digital ambassador of the MBE programme. I moved out from Sweden at the middle of October for the needs of the PP2 course of the master’s curriculum.
As prospective MBE students, you might know that during the MBE programme we have to conduct a 7 weeks internship in a company within the life science industry. As I mentioned before, for the needs of the PP2 I moved out from Stockholm and I moved in to Basel, Switzerland in order to conduct my internship at Novartis Pharmaceuticals.
As every application procedure and period, the internship application period was adventurous, informative and time consuming. Just like my classmates, I started applying for positions that I could see myself working on and fitted in the master’s prerequisites. The application period was consisting from online applications, meetings with potential employers, writing emails and making phone calls. At this point, I would like to mention that it is very important to know what exactly you are looking for, in what field and in what kind of company.
After the long period of applications, I was invited from Novartis Pharmaceuticals for a telephone interview. The duration of the telephone interview was 4hrs where I spoke with 3 different people from the department and 1 from the HR (Human Resources). The preparation for the interview was very important as I had to create a preparation strategy on how to get prepared and on what. The important aspects that the preparation should definitely cover are personality, job and field and company related knowledge. Since I wasn’t so experienced in this process, I ask for help from some experienced friends and it turned out that their help was very valuable. Here, I would like to advise you to not be afraid to communicate your needs and ask for help since this is only way to develop yourself and understand what you are lacking.
As you might have realized, I received a positive answer after the interview and consequently, I moved to Basel, Switzerland. The life here is very nice too. As you might know, Switzerland is a country with high standards of living such as Sweden. The work environment is warm and during these two months, I had the chance to meet people from all over the world. However, I have to admit that I do miss my friends from Stockholm, but I am very happy that I will meet them again next week during the internship presentations.
The next months I will continue living in Basel and working for Novartis since it turned out that I will conduct my master thesis here too. This means that my friends from Stockholm now have more time to plan their visit to Basel.
In conclusion, due to my relocation in Switzerland, I have stopped blogging. However, I would like to encourage you not to hesitate to contact me for any advice or information regarding the MBE programme, Novartis, the life in Sweden & Switzerland and applications.
Thank you very much for reading my post.
I wish you a happy New Year and all the best for 2014.
