Announcement of the 2013 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine

1:50 They are closing now, It was difficult to the journalists to make questions but most of them were focused in the clinical application and usufulness. For me is interesting when they talk about spasticity and on botulism as I worked with a product based on botulinum toxin some years ago. i need to understand more on this.

11:42 It is nice to understand everything. Let’s see if I read the papers I understand the same. But I am thankful today of my and Biology and Physiology teachers in Colombia and my bioinformatics ones in Uppsala

I am wondering how the not specilized ournalist chose what to include in their news but they are the way how the world will know about this.

11:35: They explain cell  physisology to journalists. Very basic and clear

11.30 The award was announced:

The Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine 2013 was awarded jointly to James E. Rothman, Randy W. Schekman and Thomas C. Südhof “for their discoveries of machinery regulating vesicle traffic, a major transport system in our cells”.

Learn about the life of Alfred Nobel in the Nobel Prize web site: http://www.nobelprize.org/alfred_nobel/

And this interesting summary by the Huffington Post and recommended by @Nobelprize_org: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/10/06/alfred-nobel_n_4053258.html

10:37 I was wondering why the Nobel Prizes are so important. When did they became so prestigious and if, sometime in the future, there will be new prizes replacing them in fame and importance to these ones.

Will there be, for instance, a Gates (Bill and Melinda) Prize? It won’t have the King or Queen of Sweden in its awarding ceremony 🙂

10:30 AM: This post will be updated regularly during the next 2 hours and it will talk about the annoucement and some other information on Alfred Nobel, the Nobel Prizes, The Nobel in Medicine, the Nobel Assembly and some other topics.

Sometimes I will post my feelings on this process, nothing scientific as I am not prepared to do that and because there are experts which discussions are worth to read.
